Understanding Your Emotions

There’s a growing need for every person on this planet to get a better handle on their mental or emotional health. There are so many things we are bombarded with on a daily basis. In fact scientists say that we’re exceeding human capacity when it comes to the amount of stimulation and information that we’re exposed to and required to process.

Emotional Health

Our mental well-being is related to our emotional health.

Mental health  refers to our ability to process information. Emotional health, on the other hand, refers to our ability to express feelings which are based upon the information you have processed.

In my own opinion, it’s very important for us to be able to know how to convey, communicate and understand our emotions whether it’s positive or negative in order to support our mental health and well-being.

Simple Steps on How to Convey Our Negative Emotions

Here are 3 simple ways on how we can identify, understand and express our negative emotions appropriately.

  1. We should first know or identify the emotion and analyze the feelings which it forms within us.
  2. Although, emotions are regulated by the limbic and nervous systems, and are hard to control when they first arise we should take a minute or more time to think. We need to have our emotions settled before making a clear and necessary response to particular situation or problem.
  3. Remember the saying, “Think before you react”. We have to apply this, when we feel like the situation and our emotions are extremely difficult to manage. When it feels like there’s no instant solution. Don’t make it worse by responding without thinking. Take a deep breath and try to be calm whatever the situation is. The only thing we can change is our reaction.

Managing Negative Emotions Reminders

The first reminder is to be honest about our feelings and emotions, face to face, and in the right time.  If the emotions we have at the moment are really strong such as anger, frustration, exhaustion, disappointment or other negative feelings we can relax a little first. Later on, find the nice time to discuss closely with the other person or people involved regarding your emotional issues and troubles. You can tell him/her that you are still angry but open to communicate, listen and make things work. Use a positive form of communication and a pleasant tone instead of a loud voice, yelling or use of inappropriate words.

Alternatively, there are people who cannot handle personal confrontation. For those I advise hand writing a letter, calling them, sending them a personal message or an email. Living in today’s digital world, can make communication easier but also allows for more room to misconstrue someone’s tone or words. Still do give this a try for those that may not be open to  face to face communication.  Again, we can use a positive form of communication to express our emotions.

Free Your Emotions

We should never hide our emotions. We should not repress it because it will be your mental health that will suffer in the end. If a situation arises where you’re not able to talk to that person or resolve the issue with them, you still need to find an outlet to express your emotions and allow that healing to happen within yourself. Someone once told me, the benefits of forgiveness are not only for the other person, they are also for you.

Find an outlet to express your emotions, whether it be through journal writing, painting, running, sports. Utilize it. Combat your negative emotions by finding your outlet and bringing on a healthy mindset. Meditation is a great way to hone in and heal your emotions. Some of you may not be open to meditation yet because you believe it is tied to a religion or culture but it is not. Meditation is about finding yourself, healing yourself, and opening up yourself. Emotional Healing: the Natural Way

As I’d mentioned at the start of this post there is a growing need for every person on this planet to get a better handle on their mental or emotional health. With our current situation (the pandemic) our minds are even more overwhelmed. The good news is that there is a solution to this. A new and pioneering solution. This is something I have been employing it in my own life.

So let me tell you more about this simple yet profound solution that you could implement in your own life. Daily meditation:

This app using my voice information to collect information that over time I am going to be able to see my own mental and emotional trends. Do it everyday because if you don’t do the meditation and see what the response is then you have no stats. Get the stats!
